Bariser manual
Version 1.0
Bariser turns any sound into a riser: a reverse reverb swell that grows out of silence and lands exactly on the hit, with optional rhythmic movement, a pitch glide and auto-pan, all locked to your project's tempo.
Install
- Windows: run the installer. If Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. Bariser installs as a VST3.
- Mac: open the installer package. If macOS says it can't check it, open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway. Bariser installs as AU and VST3.
- Restart or rescan plugins in your DAW, then add Bariser to a track. Bariser works on mono and stereo tracks.
Activate
The first time you open Bariser it asks for your serial key (it's in your purchase email). Paste it and press Activate. You need to be online once. One serial works on up to 3 of your computers.
Bariser checks your serial with our server in the background when you open it, without slowing anything down. If you are offline it keeps working for up to 30 days between checks.
Moving to a new computer? On the old one, open the menu (the three lines at the top right) and choose Deactivate this computer. That frees one of your 3 spots.
1. Load a sound
- Drag an audio file onto the plugin, or press OPEN.
- Or press CAPTURE, play your track in the DAW, and press STOP. Bariser records what plays through its track (up to 60 seconds).
2. The punch
The top screen shows your sound. Bariser finds the first real hit by itself: this is the punch, the moment the riser builds up to. To use a different part, drag across it on the top screen. AUTO goes back to the detected hit.
3. Reverb
The swell is made by reversing your sound, adding reverb and reversing it back, so the reverb tail rises into the hit. Everything from the punch on is fed into the reverb, so the swell carries the real tone of your sound.
- COLOR: MODERN is bright and clean. VINTAGE is darker and dreamy, like early digital reverbs; it also gives the plugin an old, worn look.
- MODE: the kind of space. Room (small and tight), Chamber (warm, medium), Plate (dense and bright), Hall (the classic riser), Cathedral (huge and airy), Shimmer (a big hall with an octave above that sparkles as it rises).
- PRE-DELAY: a short gap of silence right before the punch. A little makes the hit land sharper.
- SIZE: how big the space is, from small and close to big and open.
- DECAY: how long the swell is, from 0.3 to 10 seconds.
- ATTACK: how the swell comes in. SHARP: you hear it from the start. SOFT: it creeps in from silence.
- HIGH CUT: the top of the reverb. Lower is darker and warmer, higher is brighter.
- LOW CUT: removes low end from the swell so it doesn't clash with your kick and bass.
- MIX: reverb versus the reversed sound itself. 100 is only reverb; lower brings in more of your sound playing backwards.
4. Motion
Each section has its own ON switch. They work with every reverb color and mode.
- LFO: a rhythm that speeds up into the punch. START and END set the rate at the beginning and at the punch, CURVE sets how it speeds up (LIN evenly, EXP mostly at the end), MIX how deep it cuts. SMOOTH gives soft swells, GATE hard stutter chops.
- PITCH: the swell starts AMOUNT semitones away and glides back to the original pitch at the punch. CURVE sets how the glide moves.
- PAN: auto-pan that speeds up from START to END. WIDTH sets how far it swings; it always lands centred on the punch. MIX sets how much of it you hear.
- TEMPO: follows your project. Click it to type a tempo, drag to change it, double-click to follow the project again.
5. Use it
- PLAY (or the space bar, after clicking into the plugin) plays the swell. Turning knobs while it plays updates it straight away.
- Drag the swell from DRAG TO DAW onto a track, or press SAVE WAV to save it as a 32-bit WAV file.
- Place it so it ends right where your hit starts.
Presets
Click the preset name to see the presets, grouped into Reverb, Motion and Pitch. The arrows step through them. SAVE keeps your own settings as a preset. Undo and redo (Ctrl/Cmd+Z, Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z) work for every change.
The menu
The three lines at the top right open the menu: your serial, the quick user guide, Check for updates, Deactivate this computer and the version. When a new version is out, Bariser tells you once, and DOWNLOAD gets the right installer for your computer. Your activation stays after updating.
